In the bedroom, a large storage ottoman placed at the end of the bed provides a place to tidy away the cushions and throws you use to dress the bed during the day when you go to bed at night. Or you could put away winter’s clothes in summer and summer’s clothes in winter inside a large storage ottoman and free up space in a chest of drawers. Alternatively, put clean bed linen sets inside and everything’s to hand when you change the bed. In a child’s room, an ottoman is handy for tidying away toys when they’re young, and provides a safe place for treasured possessions when they’re older, so it’ll take them through many years of use. And why not put a large storage ottoman in the hallway, so there’s room for bags, scarves and gloves to be stashed tidily so they don’t clutter the entrance to your home?
We love the look of a patterned fabric used for ottoman upholstery. The sides and top of the design will show off a bold motif beautifully. Alternatively, consider creating overall pattern with a contemporary geometric. We have a range of options that will give your space modern style. To give your bedroom a pulled-together look, choose a fabric with a ground or pattern that matches bed linen. If you’re positioning a fabric ottoman in a hallway, going for a pattern for upholstery is a great way to add zing without overwhelming the space. You could try this tactic in a small hallway that lacks personality. For the living room, you might want to pattern combine, so think about picking a pattern that echoes colours from the other fabric designs you’ve used in the space to make the scheme harmonious. Using patterns of different scales can also help them work together rather than fighting for attention. Don’t rule out plains for a fabric ottoman, of course. You may want yours to introduce a block of colour or be a subtle presence in the room.
A large ottoman has open storage inside, so it’s perfect for more bulky items like linens, blankets, cushions and throws, or large toys in a child’s room. If you have young children, its generous capacity can be handy for easy tidying of their things once they’ve gone to bed as you can clear the floor and put everything inside. If you’re using a large ottoman in place of a coffee table, use a tray on top to protect the fabric from marks.
